Breaking the Cycle: Women’s Experience in Postsecondary Agricultural and Extension Education

چکیده

The “leaky educational pipeline” metaphor refers to the steady tapering off of women obtaining graduate degrees and reaching level a tenured faculty member, although number earning college has surpassed males since 1980s. Women are disproportionately represented among leadership at land-grant institutions in agricultural education profession. purpose this study was provide synthesis women’s experience postsecondary extension (AEE) by describing common diverging challenges, opportunities, mentoring experiences students textual narrative two preliminary studies which provided an updated profile current organizational climate AEE. Three overarching themes with 11 categories emerged summarize AEE: (a) navigating traditional academic system, (b) operating male-dominated discipline, (c) influencing change These findings challenge AEE profession critically acknowledge begin looking outside academia for solutions create more inclusive culture that values gender diversity.
